We are delighted to announce that the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools has approved the expansion of St Mary MacKillop School, Wallaroo to offer Years 7 and 8 in 2022 and Year 9 from 2023.

The Commission’s decision follows an extensive research and consultation process with the school, parish and wider community, which confirmed the strong desire for a Reception to Year 9 Catholic education provision from 2023.

Having experienced significant enrolment growth in recent years, this expansion will provide St Mary MacKillop School students an extended pathway to high quality education focussed on Catholic identity, student learning and wellbeing, and supported transition to senior secondary years.

Construction of a dedicated Year 7 to 9 secondary learning facility on the current school site will begin in early 2021. The purpose-built facility will provide students the opportunity to study in a secondary setting that will include specialist areas for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Arts, and incorporate outdoor spaces designed to cater for the needs of young adolescents.

The Commission looks forward to a continued partnership with the local community and to delivering this exciting opportunity for students and families of the Copper Coast region within the Diocese of Port Pirie.
